summary: Together they're immortal, because a horizon never dies and new winds always come.
A/N: My DEG-drift is coming back strong. Really strong. And so is my pairing drift, and Die/Toshiya is just pure love. Also I was feeling like slightly romantic thinking fics - again. ♥
Sometimes Toshiya thinks Die is like a deep, dark ocean.
His surface is clear, it reflects the sun like nothing else. When Toshiya looks at it, he sees dark eye bags, slim limbs, wandering gazes and blinding smiles, the ones he loves the most. He can't explain the feeling Die's smile awakes in him, that fluttering sense of warmth. It makes him want to answer those smiles, time after time. And he does, dimples deepening while the years pass aside them.
But if you don't want to sail through the ocean, if you want to dive deeper, see more, know more – you're going to meet reefs, hit them hard and hurt yourself sometimes so bad you don't want to dive ever again. Toshiya knows he's one of the few who have continued diving after the first hit, grown secret gills, felt the water pressure rise as the ocean has closed up around them. Because under the surface, Die hides feelings and thoughts he doesn't want anyone to know about. Not even Toshiya. But the bassist knows, has known for a long time, and isn't planning on rising back to the surface. He's not scared of the depths Die's soul hides, not taken aback by the words he never phrases.
Sometimes Toshiya changes his point of view. Because more than an ocean, Die is a horizon. Ever-changing, but still through the years somehow the same. Sometimes storms circle around him, hit him and darken him. Sometimes sunshine strokes his features, shows his best sides and makes them bathe in glow. But even though the changes are big, he himself doesn't segue or vary.
Toshiya often likes to think Die's the horizon and he's the wind. Those two seem to be always connected through something, both good and bad. When there's a storm, wind is strong and forceful: but when the sun shines and it's warm, the wind embraces the horizon gently. It's invisible and no one else but the horizon can feel it passing through, no one else can recognize the bond between them as strongly as them.
Toshiya doesn't see his personality as invisible or something ignorable, but he likes his theories. He always likes them, when Die shouts at him, eyes filled with fury, furniture cracking and doors closing with a violent bang. When he smiles at him, winks, looking enthusiastic like a child, showing him something new about himself and the world around him. When he looks at Toshiya, eyes nubilous, inexplicable and suddenly kisses him without hurry, softly, lovingly. It's not something Die does often, and Toshiya doesn't complain. But when it happens, Toshiya curls a lock of Die's hair around his fingers and tugs.
There's a past behind them and a future ahead of them. Together they're immortal, because a horizon never dies and new winds always come.
