A/N: This is my nth pointless drabble/one-shot (technically it's an one-shot, but it's drabble-ish). Seriously. Someone please stop me. (Actually this started out as a dialogue, but then I started feeling like it needed something more. Could have been other things than description, though - a plot, maybe.)
I JUST HAVE A THING FOR SIDEKICKS AND LAME DIALOGUE, IT'S NOT MY FAULT OKAY? STOP ACCUSING ME LIKE THAT, DUH
It starts with two Starbucks frappuccinos, dim bedroom lights and a lazy night alone.
Not that anyone who hasn't seen it themselves would believe these words, but when he's tired but not quite ready to sleep yet, all relaxed limbs and messy hair and exhausted smiles, Jin thinks. His thoughts start to wander in places they usually ignore. Those thoughts can sometimes be dark and depressing, ones nobody wants to enter, but most of the time they focus on topics both ridiculous and normal. Ordinary.
This is the time for one of those kind of thoughts. Jin is stretched out on Kame's bed, enjoying its softness. No futon, Kame has always been paranoid about back problems. Jin can't find it in himself to complain, not when the expensive mattress is embracing his body like that. He moans happily, making Kame glance at him. The other man is lying on the bed too, reading. It's slightly rare for them to just no nothing, especially when there's a bed involved (or more like it's rare for Jin, but Kame's sighs about him being a horny bastard are half-hearted), but fatigue has taken hold of both of them.
It's quiet, Kame focusing on his beloved book and Jin breathing deeply and hoping for someone to scratch his belly. That's why it really takes both of them by surprise when the latter breaks the silence without any real thought.
”I wonder if Batman was ever bullied.”
Jin's words are lazy, a bit mumbled, but still questioning enough to demand a response. Kame puts his book down and turns to look at him.
”Why?” Kame asks, tilting his head, not that sure if he wants to continue this conversation.
”You know, if he used to be the class nerd or something. The weirdo, a loser,” Jin explains. ”Always laughing in the wrong places, making up bad jokes and struggling with intelligence. That kind of loser.”
”A bit like you, then,” the other man snorts and earns an elbow hitting his ribs.
”Shut up! I was cool in high school, not a loser,” Jin implies, still not getting a convincing reaction. ”But it would be awesome to be like Batman, though. You could be my Robin.”
”Why should I be Robin?”
”What's wrong with Robin? He's got some awesome moves, you can't deny that.”
For a minute, Kame is silent. Without obviously knowing it, Jin is pressing on things buried in the past. Things that have been living inside Kame's spine for a long time. He's still sensitive with these things. He's Kamenashi. He's individual. But if he said that to Jin, the man would never understand. Wouldn't even realize what Kame was talking about.
”Robin's the sidekick. The right hand. The other guy. I don't want to be just the other guy,” he finally explains his point of view.
”You'd be my other guy,” Jin retorts immediately and without knowing it, makes Kame feel a little insulted, even though by all the means and logic he definitely shouldn't. ”Besides, Robin has a big role. Many sidekicks do,” Jin continues.
”But he's not as great as Batman.”
”Kame, greatness is not imp--”
”Shut up, you know very well what I meant.”
There's an obvious edge in Kame's voice, one that even Jin notices. But instead of any other reaction, the latter just hums and shrugs a little.
”Right,” he starts after a while, ”but what I meant was that there's a lot of famous sidekicks out there.”
”Like?” Kame asks, the edge still visible, but slightly tamed.
”What?”
”Name some. I don't believe you.”
It doesn't take much time from Jin to make up an answer. After all, his cultural interest has been directed to somewhere for all these years.
”Well, first there's of course Batman and Robin...”
”And?”
”Superman and Lois Lane.”
”Lois Lane was his girlfriend, not a sidekick!” Kame exclaims, hitting the back of Jin's head with his hand. Nevertheless there is now a small grin forming and curling on his mouth.
”But you kind of are my girlfriend, aren't you?” Jin asks, drawing out every syllable and trying to look as innocent as possible. He doesn't earn the kind of reaction he's looking for, though: instead Kame rises an eyebrow and looks at him like a suspect for a crime.
”Jin, one word about crossdressing and I'm throwing you out.”
”Come on, your last one was kind of h--”
”Jin.”
”Yes?”
”I hate you.”
It's not like Kame means it, he never does, but there are topics considered as taboos between them. Or more like topics Kame wants to avoid with all the costs and Jin gets kicks out of.
”Don't say that, I'm not even finished with my sidekick list yet! Where was I?” Jin answers, pouting a little, but his effort isn't notable.
”Getting your ass kicked?” Kame sneers back, grasping at his coffee cup on the nightstand. When his attempt sadly fails, he decides to leave the frappuccino in its solitude and concentrate on Jin instead.
”Thank you, you're always so constructive,” the dark-haired man rolls his eyes, but continues anyway. ”So, Superman and Lois Lane. Then.. Sherlock Holmes and Watson.”
This makes Kame go silent for a full five seconds. He just stares at Jin and then suddenly bursts into laughter, his voice echoing on the walls, making Jin frown.
”Wait, you're attempting to be Sherlock Holmes?” Kame finally asks, his laughter morphing to giggles.
”Stop laughing, I could be him!” Jin yelps, but it's no use.
After collecting himself, Kame sits up. He's still grinning widely, but there's a hint of mischief in his expression. The shorter one leans closer and tilts his head too, trying to fake innocence.
”I think you'd make a better Watson,” he declares and presses his palm on Jin's chest, making the man turn to lie on his back.
”You just can't accept the fact I'm smarter than you,” Jin snorts, but doesn't protest when Kame crawls on top of him and straddles on Jin.
”You shouldn't show such arrogance, doctor Watson,” Kame remarks and swallows every retort with a kiss.
